“Building a permanent home for our vineyard is something we have dreamed of,” said owner and winemaker Garry Brooks. “Having a place to welcome our guests and enjoy wine with them, and being part of the Petaluma community, marks the start of an exciting new chapter for us.”

A passionate, down-to-earth winemaker, Brooks left a career in IT business management to pursue winemaking in 2004. The decision to flee the cabin — not the corner office — came at the suggestion of his wife. , after the couple helped out their in-laws. plant a hobbyist vineyard in Sonoma.

Booted from the start, Brooks worked in wineries by day while returning to school to study viticulture at UC Davis by night. Brooks Note Winery, named after husband Garry Brooks and wife Joanne (Note) Brooks, produced its first pinot noir in 2012.

In 2018, after several successful vintages, the couple began to seek permanent residence for the winery. Built in 1921 as a Studebaker dealership, the Brooks Note Winery building is located at 426 Petaluma Boulevard North, just one block from downtown. Throughout the renovation process, Joanne and Garry reused as many of the original materials as possible, including trusses and massive wood beams found throughout the 7,000 square foot space. The cellar also runs on solar energy.

Now open for business, the airy and modern industrial space offers casual wine tastings (reservations appreciated) and wines by the glass. It houses the production facilities of the winery. On a limited basis, the barrel room and tank room in the cellar will be used for private events.
