Outdoor venue in downtown Saginaw renamed Jolt Credit Union Event Park

SAGINAW, MI — Concert-goers in Saginaw will soon be attending the Jolt Credit Union Event Park in the city’s downtown district.

Officials announced that the credit union had acquired the naming rights to the outdoor venue most recently known as Huntington Event Park, and originally, as FirstMerit Bank Event Park. The site is listed on the Dow Event Center’s list of sites on Johnson, near the North Washington intersection.

“The Event Park has become a staple in the region, and there’s no better way for Jolt Credit Union to show that we plan to continue to be woven into the fabric of our community than through this partnership. “, said Alan Watson, president. and CEO of Jolt Credit Union.

Dow Event Center officials said the credit union’s naming rights agreement spans three years with an option to extend the agreement to nine years.

Jolt Credit Union officials said negotiations for the naming rights took about six months. Interest in pursuing naming rights, however, came much faster for the organization’s leaders, said Bridget Staffileno, vice president of community affairs at Jolt Credit Union.

“We brought it to a board meeting, and at the end of the board meeting, we voted, ‘Yes, we’re going to get involved in the event park,'” said Staffileno. “We saw this as a commitment to our community. We don’t just write a check. We show up whenever there is something in the community.

Staffileno said the first event scheduled at the newly named venue will be tied to Saginaw’s Cinco de Mayo festival, scheduled for Saturday, May 7.

The last time the outdoor site was renamed was in 2017. This transition was the result of a merger between Huntington Bank and FirstMerit Bank, which received the park’s first naming rights contract when it opened in 2013.

Since then, the facility – which includes a 10,000 square foot pavilion – has hosted crowds of up to 5,500 people attending concerts, community events and fundraisers. Among the big names to perform there: Bryan Adams, Eddie Money, Cole Swindell, Rob Zombie and ZZ Top.

ASM Global – formed in October 2019 after the merger of AEG Facilities and SMG – operates the county-owned event center, including Jolt Credit Union Event Park.

“We are thrilled at the opportunity to partner with such a dynamic and community-focused organization as Jolt Credit Union on event park naming rights,” said Jon Block, Managing Director of Jolt Credit Union Event Park. and the Dow Event Center. “We look forward to partnering with them for years to come and continuing to engage our community with great events and concerts in the great environment that Jolt Credit Union Event Park provides.”

The naming rights announcement took place during a press conference on Tuesday, April 12 at the venue. Among the community leaders in attendance were members of the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners, including Chairman Carl Ruth as well as Saginaw Mayor Brenda Moore. Saginaw Spirit’s mascot, Sammy Spirit, also applauded the announcement.
