Pamplin Media Group – Yara’s Cake shop opens downtown

After the pandemic closed its first location, Yara is ready to be open again in the heart of Madras

Yara’s Cake Shop offers some of the most delicious cakes and treats in central Oregon. Yara Santos creates custom cakes with themes and decorations ranging from fun and colorful creations for children to elegant and classic wedding cakes.

Santos started making cakes in 2013 and ran a custom cake business from home. She took custom orders and decorated the cakes herself. She and her husband, Juan, decided in 2019 to open a physical store. This store, which was behind Columbia Bank on H Street, closed in 2020 due to loss of business due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the help of small business loans from the city and county, Yara’s is once again open in a new location in the heart of downtown Madras.

“I’m really grateful to the city and the community for supporting us,” Santos said. “It really allowed us to do that. It was our dream to own a bakery, and we are happy to continue to do so.”

The new store at 161 SW 5th Street will offer much more than Yara’s signature cakes.

Along with the delicious custom cakes that Yara’s is known for, the shop will offer boba tea, mangonada, cake pops, turnovers and slice cakes. Santos hopes to have a variety of cakes available each day to buy by the slice, from his signature tres leches to single-serving chocolate flans.

“We want to have a variety of things and be a place where people can come in and get delicious treats,” Santos said.

The shop is now open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
